The last Matisse in Rome

“Paper Morphologies” at the Infantry Historical Museum

The exhibition The Last Matisse – Morphologies of Paper brings to Rome a unique selection of over 100 works on paper by the great artist Henri Matisse, exploring his extraordinary creative period following the First World War, when, limited by illness, he invented a new form of expression through the famous papier découpés and drawings on paper. The exhibition is set up at the The Infantry Historical Museum will be open from February 28 to June 28, 2026, offering a journey through the artistic evolution of one of the masters of Fauvism and modern art.

The exhibition traces the main sections of Matisse’s work on paper, from drawings for books like Verve to the lively cut-out compositions that seem to dance in space, showing how the artist transformed physical limitations into extraordinary creative freedom.

Located in one of Rome’s historic areas, the exhibition is an unmissable event for lovers of art and visual history.
