Conversione di Saulo

Following the huge success of Caravaggio in Rome, from July 24 to September 30, 2025, the National Gallery of Ancient Art – Palazzo Barberini will host an extraordinary event: Caravaggio’s “Conversione di Saulo” (also known as Pala Odescalchi), displayed in a new light and accompanied by a high-definition reproduction of the later version preserved in Santa Maria del Popolo. Also on display is the infrared reflectography carried out during the 2006 restoration, which reveals the creative processes hidden in the Master’s painting.
An exciting comparison that reveals Caravaggio’s genius: the first version shines with dynamism, intense colors, and a dense composition; the second, more intimate and meditative, introduces visitors to the visionary introspection of Merisi’s late art.
