Agnès Varda in Rome

“Here and There, Between Paris and Rome” at Villa Medici

The exhibition Agnès Varda. Here and There, Between Paris and Rome celebrates the work of the French artist, photographer, and director through over 130 images, documents, posters, and personal objects on display at Villa Medici – Accademia di Francia in the heart of Rome from February 25 to May 25, 2026.

The exhibition traces the career of Agnès Varda (1928-2019), a key figure of the Nouvelle Vague, through shots taken in her historic Parisian studio on rue Daguerre and photographs taken during her travels in Italy, from Venice to Rome, up to stolen scenes on film sets.

In addition to photographs, the exhibition includes excerpts from films and publications, creating a dialogue between images, cinema, and artistic memory. The exhibition explores Varda’s way of viewing the world with irony and sensitivity, telling stories of ordinary people, urban landscapes, and memorable encounters.

Located in the historic gardens of Villa Medici, the exhibition is an unmissable stop on Rome’s cultural calendar for photography and film enthusiasts.
